ESI LAUNCH NEW GUIDE ON CONTROLLING GREY SQUIRRELS

A new comprehensive guide, providing advice to gamekeepers, trappers, foresters and others interested in controlling grey squirrels has been produced by the European Squirrel Initiative (ESI). The guide provides information on trapping methods, types of traps, poisoning, despatch and disposal.

“Controlling greys is the only sure way to secure the future of our native red squirrel and this guide will be invaluable to those whose priority is the conservation of the native red,” said Miles Barne, Chairman of ESI.

“The guide helps clarify the law on issues such as despatch and provides helpful information on the most appropriate trapping methods and when and where it is possible to use Warfarin.” he added.

The ESI, who have complied the guide from existing of sources of information, is the leading charity focussing on the eradication of grey squirrels in order to protect trees, plants and woodland birds and to preserve our native red. The guide is available to download free from the ESI website and can also be ordered as a hard copy via the website for a small charge.
