BLAIR SUPPORTS REDS
The European Squirrel Initiative (ESI) has been chosen as the beneficiary charity at Blair Castle’s annual charity day on Thursday July
6th from 9.30am to 5.30pm.
The ESI, a charity committed to raising public awareness of the plight of the native red squirrel, will present information and material on
their work and fundraising activities. There will be information available highlighting the threats faced by the declining red squirrel population in the UK and a ranger leading a guided Squirrel Trail and other squirrel events
for children.
Miles Barne, Chairman of the ESI, said, “We are very grateful to the Atholl Estates for their generous support and giving us the
opportunity to tell visitors about the challenges to our indigenous red squirrel.”
As Blair Castle’s chosen charity the proceeds from the day will be donated to the ESI.

NOTES TO EDITORS
The European Squirrel Initiative was founded in June 2002 by a group of concerned conservationists and foresters. The organisation seeks the
restoration of the native Red Squirrel and the protection of the natural environment by removing the impact of the alien Grey Squirrel in Europe.
Its role is to
- Persuade conservation bodies and governments of the absolute necessity of ridding Europe of the Grey Squirrel.
- Continue to commission research into the impact of the Grey Squirrel on local ecosystems.
